It is now one year shy of a quarter of a century since Supreme Ventures Limited (SVL) acquired the assets of the Jamaica Lottery Company Ltd. In March 2017, the promotion of live horse racing was included in the portfolio of the expansive gaming company to operate the Caymanas Park race track. This, under a lease arrangement with prior promoters, the government-owned Caymanas Track Limited, supervised by the Accountant General Department.
Six sprinters will contest the Supreme Ventures 24th Anniversary Trophy Grade I (Graded Stakes Open Allowance) over six furlongs. Champion Bubbler (USA), Fearless Soul, Digital One (USA), Legacy Isle (USA), Chocomo (USA) and Wall Street Trader (USA) will report to the starter. With local-bred Fearless Soul the only one, the domination of the top classes by the imported horses will continue.
Legacy Isle from the barn of Rohan Crichton was impressive over the five-furlong straight course of the Harlequinn Trophy on May 31. Ridden by champion and 2025 leader Raddesh Roman, who has been engaged again. Legacy Isle (USA), led under top weight, scored by nearly five lengths, renews rivalry with runner-up Champion Bubbler (USA) and looks likely to confirm those placings.
Digital One (USA), with promising nine-pound claimer Emelio McLean declared by Gary Subratie, has shown herself to be such a thoroughly game and consistent performer with seven wins, four seconds and a similar number of thirds from 16 starts. In the Eros Trophy on June 07, she led for nearly the seven furlongs trip and failed only by a half a length to withstand the finishing speed of Tiz Tok (USA).
Wall Street Trader (USA) was the first to challenge Digital One (USA) a furlong out in the Eros but failed to sustain the effort and had to settle for third, another half a length behind the principals. The problem for the Rohan Mathie-trained Wall Street Trader, to be ridden by Shane Richardson, is that he will start with 15lbs more than in the Eros.
With Champion Bubbler showing a distinct affinity to the straight course with three wins prior to finishing second to Legacy Isle, she is still expected to run well enough to make the frame. However, all things considered, the likely improvement of four-year-old Digital One (USA) makes her the selection over Legacy Isle(USA). Fearless Soul and Chocomo (USA) have just earned promotion to Open Allowance, and it will be interesting to determine how much progress both have made.
