KINGSTON, Jamaica - Don Wehby, owner of Digital One, is cautiously optimistic about his two-year-old bay filly's future. He believes that if she remains sound and healthy, she could become a a competitor of worth in the future.
The American-bred Digital One maintained her unbeaten record in two career starts, securing an impressive victory in the Hover Craft Sprint over six furlongs on Saturday, October 28, 2023.
Under the guidance of trainer Jason DaCosta and jockey Reyan Lewis, Digital One led from start to finish, winning by 6 ½ lengths and clocking a time of 1:13.3 (23.3 x 45.1) for the distance.
"This is an exceptional performance from her. She keeps improving with every race. She's clearly a horse with tremendous class, and if she stays sound, she has a bright future ahead," Wehby said.
"I'm extremely pleased with her progress. She's tackled five-and-a-half and six furlongs, and perhaps the trainer will now test her at seven furlongs to see how she fares. She's still young, but I'm captivated by her racing style."
Wehby remained grounded about his expectations, saying, "With horses like these, it's essential to manage your hopes and pray they stay sound. As long as she remains healthy, I think Digital One will be a top contender."
From the start, Digital One established a strong lead over Run Julie Run (Omar Walker). As the race progressed and she approached the half-mile (800m) turn, the bay filly lengthened her strides and widened the gap between herself and Run Julie Run.
