The seventh of nine races on the Saturday card is reserved for three-year-old maidens. Nine horses have been nominated to face the starter over five furlongs round, each seeking that elusive first victory.
With a mix of seasoned runners still searching for success and debutants beginning their journey, this contest promises intrigue and potential surprises.
The Quick Galloper presents the assessment in post-position order.
1 – Dark Authority
Bay colt (April 16) by Conquest Cherimash out of Rough Love
Trainer – Anthony Nunes
Jockey – Raddesh Roman
Dark Authority has finished third in both of his two starts, displaying natural speed as his strongest asset. From the inside draw, he is expected to break sharply and attempt to dictate the pace. His recent workouts suggest readiness, and he is the one rivals must catch.
2 – D.O.K
Bay colt (May 2) by Spieth out of Regency
Trainer – Anthony Nunes
Jockey – Shane Richardson
Equipment – Visor off
D.O.K has yet to make an impression in his two outings. The removal of the visor signals a tactical adjustment by connections, hoping to spark improvement. Whether this change alters his fortunes remains to be seen, but a better showing is required.
3 – Mr Carter
Bay colt (February 4) by Bern Identity out of Miss Gabbidon
Trainer – Barrington Bernard
Jockey – Rotajmar Weir
Equipment – Tongue tie off, figure 8 on
Mr Carter has shown mild progress across his two starts. Significant equipment changes are now applied, with the trainer aiming to redirect his trajectory. This race will reveal whether those adjustments can unlock further potential.
4 – Cataleya
Bay filly (March 6) by Casual Trick out of Unpredictable
Trainer – Michael Marlowe
Jockey – Shaheem Gordon
Cataleya enters with five runs under her belt but has yet to trouble the board. Without signs of improvement, expectations remain modest, and she will need a dramatic turnaround to feature prominently.
5 – My Friend Micki
Bay filly (January 21) by Savoy Stomp out of Bubbling Angeline
Trainer – Gary Griffiths
Jockey – Robert Halledeen
The most experienced of the group, My Friend Micki has competed 13 times. Her consistency ensures she is often in the frame, and another placing looks likely. While victory has eluded her, her reliability makes her a strong candidate for the minor honours.
6 – Eye Of The Tiger
Bay colt (May 30) by Aveenu Malcainu out of Full Moon’s Enough
Trainer – Jason DaCosta
Jockey – Abigail Able
Eye Of The Tiger debuted on April 4, finishing second by 1 ¼ lengths to Rockhampton over the straight five. Well-prepared for this second attempt, expectations are high. The only question mark lies in the choice of rider, which has raised discussion among observers.
7 – Golden Ambassador
Chestnut colt (May 7) by Shackleville out of Sunscape
Trainer – Paul Swaby
Jockey – Tevin Foster
Golden Ambassador begins his racing education here. While debutants often require time to adapt, the booking of Tevin Foster is noteworthy and could provide a competitive edge. His progress will be closely monitored.
8 – Woodburn Hills
Bay filly (February 5) by Aveenu Malcainu out of Classical Princess
Trainer – Patrick Lynch
Jockey – Chalrick Budhai
Equipment – Figure 8 on
Woodburn Hills has been well beaten in three prior starts. The addition of the figure eight is intended to aid her focus, but expectations remain low unless she shows unexpected improvement.
9 – Native Isle
Brown colt (April 3) by Successful Native out of Mary’s Gold Trainer – Phillip Lee Jockey – Emelio Mclean Equipment – Figure 8 on
Native Isle makes his debut and will gain valuable experience from this first outing. While victory may be ambitious at this stage, the run will serve as a foundation for his development.
