Dane Nelson off the mark on Derby Day with Mr Ambassador at 1-5 in Caymanas Saturday second

KINGSTON, Jamaica – Jockey Dane Nelson earned his first win on Derby Day 2021 (Caymanas Saturday second) on the Johnny Wilmot conditioned Mr Ambassador.

Mr Ambassador was winning for the 11th time from 73 career starts, this time in a three-year-old and upwards Claiming ($450,000 - $400,000) contest at 5 ½ furlongs.

Nelson held Mr Ambassador in fourth place as Stanislaus (Jerome Innis) led the front running pack.

Coming close to the final turn Nelson started to get Mr Ambassador into a full drive and the nine-year-old bay gelding responded by blowing by rivals to win comfortably by 3 ½ lengths.

Super Amia (Omar Walker) was second and Smokey Topaz (Oshane Nugent) third.
