KINGSTON, Jamaica – Although already winning three races on his sublime return to race riding at Caymanas Park, jockey Dane Nelson saved his best thus far, for the ninth race when he brought the house down with a sizzling come from behind effort on the Anthony Nunes trained Princess Ava.
Both Nelson and Nunes were enjoying their fourth visit to the winners’ enclosure on the day.
The race – division two of the Supreme Ventures Diamond Sprint which is a restricted Stakes for three –year –olds run over 6 ½ furlongs, saw Nelson and Princess Ava at the back of the field as Crytocurrency set the fractions with Top Shelf and others nearby.
Nelson was pumping hard on Princess Ava down the backstretch as they went wide entering the straight. Flying on the outside under strong handling from Nelson, Princess Ava got up in time to nip Cryptocurreny (Oneil Mullings) by a neck with Tricky One (Reyan Lewis) third.
The winning of 1:18.3 done by Princess Ava equalled the stakes record.
