KINGSTON, Jamaica – The seventh event on 1000 Guineas Day (Sat, June 7, 2025) pays homage to one of the island’s greatest ever thoroughbred, Eros.
The Eros Trophy is for three-year-old and upwards at the Grade One level going seven furlongs, a distance which Eros holds the track record since 1991 of 1:22.4.
The Quick Galloper’s assessment is done on each of the seven horses entered to compete.
1 – Commandant aims for his fourth local win from six starts. He carries 126 lbs, giving away weight to all rivals, with Tiz Tok next at 112 lbs. Weight is a major factor, but Commandant remains a strong contender due to his class and past performances.
2 – Wall Street Trader has been consistent but is unlikely to sustain his speed in the final two furlongs. However, with 101 lbs, the light weight could play a role.
3 – Is That A Fact has been out of form recently and is not expected to be competitive, despite carrying 108 lbs with an apprentice allowance.
4 – Digital One struggled in her last outing at five furlongs straight, a distance that did not suit her. In better form this season with two wins, she has a tactical advantage by staying close to the pace and striking late.
5 – Tiz Tok holds a better handicap position than Commandant, often settling off the pace and finishing well in the stretch. The weight difference favors a strong run.
6 – Unspun is unlikely to match up against these opponents.
7 – Intrestntimesahead moves up in class for the first time. The only local-bred in the field faces tough competition with minimal chances of success.
