KINGSTON, Jamaica – An intriguing contest is in the making this Saturday, June 18, 2022, when nine four-year-olds (non-four) face the starter in the tenth of eleven races – the Valbert Marlowe Memorial Cup. This trophy race at nine furlongs honours the former trainer who made his name with three victories in the Gold Cup by Kilowatt.
Below is the analysis of the nine runners done in order of their draw positions.
– SIR JOHN enters this level for the first time after a smashing win at the non-winners of three-level going seven furlongs. Sir John has returned to good form after a long struggle. Expect him to go to the front but against these, it will be difficult for him as he will need time to get accustomed to the new grade.
– POSITIVE ID steps up in class, and although the journey is to his liking, he will have to get every step right to win this one.
– IT’S A BOY makes his first entry at this level with his best bet being a minor share.
– PRINCE MARSHALL comes into this trophy race after a superb effort on May 23, when finishing third behind Amy The Butcher and T Brady. Saturday’s distance will not be an issue for Prince Marshall, whose chances are further enhanced with jockey Dane Dawkins replacing Oneil Mullings. Note, Prince Marshall race with the figure 8 on.
– RING CHARMER is going to find it difficult against these. Note, Ring Charmer races with the tongue tie on.
– KHAI ALEXIS is stepping up in grade and has no realistic prospect of winning.
– T Brady enters this contest following two second-place finishes both behind Amy The Butcher. T Brady races over the perfect trip and is presented with the perfect opportunity of rewarding his connections.
– UNRULY BOSS must work hard to earn a minor share. Note, Unruly Boss races with the blinkers off.
– CLASSICAL ORB has moved from the barn of Ian Parsard to that of Colin Blair. Classical Orb reports well-trained under the care of his new conditioner, the trip is perfect, and he is known to perform better over the longer distances. Note, Classical Orb races with the figure 8 on.
