KINGSTON, Jamaica – Berry Boy racing for only the second time was produced by leading rider apprentice Christopher Mamdeen late in deep stretch to run by the leaders Ali (Anthony Thomas) and King Tavari (Tevin Foster) to win by three lengths in a Maiden Special Weight for three-year-olds going 9 furlongs and 25 yards.
It was a peach of ride by the young apprentice as he waited on Berry Boy before striking for the win by three lengths.
Berry Boy, who won the ninth of 10 races on the mid-week racing card was the second winner for Mamdeen and trainer Ian Persard.
Ali finished second with Sir Ian Links third.
The winning time was 2:00.1 with Berry Boy winning at odds of 2-1.
