KINGSTON, Jamaica – Caymanas Park was covered in blue vinyl after the 48th running of the 2000 Guineas today (Sunday, June 5, 2022). Blue Vinyl, the 3-2 favourite is a scorching stretch run won the three-year-old colts and geldings Classic, the one-mile 2000 Guineas.
Blue Vinyl benefitted from a patient ride from Raddesh Roman who kept the Bern Identity – Blufield chestnut colt trained by Patrick Lynch well off the pace set by Brinks (Reyan Lewis) and Yellowstone (Anthony Thomas), with Emerpeorofthecats and Morimoto (Robert Halledeen) not far behind.
Brinks quickly dispatched Yellowstone, as Emperorofthecats and Morimoto got closer at the four-furlong marker. Roman started to move Blue Vinyl on the inside but his path was interrupted forcing him to break stride, and in so doing fell even further behind the leader.
At the top of the lane, Brinks had a clear advantage, then in a flash, Blue Vinyl started to roll and when he reached top gear it was like the rest of the pack had come to a halt.
Blue Vinyl then coasted to an 11-length victory in a time of 1:37.4, which was four-fifths of a second slower than the clocking 24-hours earlier by Atomica, the winner of the fillies’ only 1000 Guineas.
Brinks finished second with Emperorofthecats third.
For jockey Raddesh Roman it was his first Classic victory, while for Lynch it was his first Classic win in the 2000 Guineas. The Michael Gayle led M N M Racing Stable, the owner of Blue Vinyl was also celebrating a first Classic victory.
Breeder Ian Parsard was in high spirits after the 2000 as his Paradise at Spring Village stallion Bern Identity sire the first two horses, Blue Vinyl and Brinks.
