KINGSTON, Jamaica – The eighth race on Saturday, January 21, 2023, at Caymanas Park is for four-year-olds and upwards (non-winners of two), and for imported four-year-olds and upwards maiden.

Nine horses, all locally bred are entered in this seven-furlong call.

The Quick Galloper’s assessment is provided below.

1 – FLY MESSENGER FLY is a battle-hardened filly (31 starts), who has remained consistent throughout. Finished second last time out (Jan 7) behind the out-of-class Roraima, with Amad Ali 7 ½ lengths behind in third place. The distance of seven furlongs is to the liking of Fly Messenger Fly.

2 – SHADOWFAX is finding his way since the start of this season after a break with two second-place efforts. Having sunken his hoofs on racing sand again, he is poised for a winning effort especially given the more relaxed pace of seven furlongs.

3 – AMAD ALI was way adrift (seven lengths) of Fly Messenger Fly and even with the return of Allen Maragh in the saddle, he will find it difficult to get the better of Fly Messenger Fly. Should be considered for the exacta and trifecta wagers. Note, Amad Ali races with the visor on.

4 – GIVEMETHELIGHT always puts in a good shift, but will find the principals difficult to deal with, with a place on the board his best option.

5 – NEVER ON A SUNDAY is still trying to find her way in this grouping, and if not hampered by bad habits at the gates, can get close without winning.

6 – AKA STORM Getting to know non-two. Will not be a factor. Note, AKA Storm races with blinkers off.

7 – GREAT WAYNE does not belong among these. Note, Great Wayne races with the visor on.

8 – AAVA JAELYN cannot deal with these.

9 – SALUTE THE DEPUTY was not able to deliver when asked to do in his last two runs. The same fate is in store again.
