KINGSTON, Jamaica – Punters at the Park and at the Offtrack Betting Parlours across the land were stunned by another 23-1 winner – this time Rohan Cattleya in the seventh race of 10 on today's (Saturday Nov 23) race card at Caymanas Park.
With champion jockey Anthony Thomas in the saddle, Rohan Cattleya disputed the lead with First Selection (Shane Richardson – 28-1) before pulling away by some distance.
At the top of the lane, Rohan Cattleya was still handily in front but began to tie-up inside the final furlong of the 6 ½ furlongs contest for Restricted Allowance V horses – non-winners of three.
Despite a late burst by Shanua Cruise (Trevor Simpson – 9-2), Thomas pushed hard enough to win by half-a-length over Shauna Cruise and Boss Izzy (Dane Dawkins – 5-2) who finished third.
With Rohan’s Cattleya winning at such long odds, for the first time in many moons, there was a Trifecta carryover of $138,007.94.
