US-bred Maiden Always Bourbon (Paul Francis), trained by Ian Alexander, made a winning debut after battling from the start to the latter part of the straight against Maverick (Robert Halledeen), until finally getting the upper hand in the final strides to give Francis an overdue winner.
Maverick was later disqualified and place third with God’s Plan moving to second.
