KINGSTON, Jamaica – The eighth race on Saturday, is the annual renewal of the Thoroughbred Racing Hall of Fame Stakes Trophy.
This cup event is for the top racers around (Grade 1) going six furlongs, seven are entered.
Let’s take a fresh look at each contender in draw order, based on the Quick Galloper’s analysis:
1 – CHOCOMO: A recent entrant to the top tier who learned just how fierce the pace can be. Outclassed by Legacy Isle on June 21, and with handicaps largely unchanged, Chocomo will need luck on his side to finish in the money.
2 – CALIFORNIA CROWN: A front runner with a win from the class below last time out. Though he’s danced with the big guns before, he might be punching above his weight here. Expect him to inject early speed—and maybe stir up a few headlines.
3 – WALL STREET TRADER: A strategic racer with adaptability on his side. His game plan? Stick close, then strike in the final stretch. With a generous 13 lb advantage compared to Legacy Isle, Wall Street Trader could surprise.
4 – PACK PLAYS: Imported talent boasting 3 wins from 9 local starts. While he can hang just off the pace, this field may prove too swift for his stride. His best hope? A pace meltdown that opens the door for a late surge.
5 – DIGITAL ONE: With a knack for short bursts—her last two wins were at five and five-and-a-half furlongs. She’ll wear the figure eight for extra precision, but must execute flawlessly to beat this fiery bunch.
6 – MAHOGANY: The elder statesman at eight years old, better suited to the bend than the straight. Though beaten by Legacy Isle last time, he carries 7 lb less this go-around. That weight drop could tip the balance in his favor.
7 – LEGACY ISLE: The reigning speedster, fresh off two commanding victories while conceding hefty weight. Once again, he’ll be giving away several pounds—but if anyone wants the trophy, they’ll have to catch him first.
