KINGSTON, Jamaica - The first major preparation race on the Road To The Triple Crown, the fillies only, Hot Line Stakes for three-year-old non-winners of two horses will be contested as the tenth event on Saturday, March 23, 2024.
The Quick Galloper’s assessment of this six-furlong event is published below.
- LUCY IN THE SKY is a bay filly (March 23) by Liquidity out of Tap A Bay Yankee, trained by Jason DaCosta with Jerome Innis riding. This filly won on her second of eight starts, as a two-year-old on August 26, 2023. Since then, Lucy In The Sky has failed to ignite any spark; no difference will occur in the Hot Line.
- CRYPTOGIRL is a chestnut filly (April 18) by Soul Warrior out of Twilight Eruption, trained by Donovan Plummer with Omar Walker aboard. This filly was a clear winner on debut in early December 2023. In her next start, Cryptogirl finished fourth (5 straight), with Comehometome in front. Crytogirl has speed, which she will use to lead, and will have a say in this one.
- LADY LAUREN is a bay filly (February 27) by Deputy Glitters out of Anna, trained by Steven Todd with Phillip Parchment in the irons. Won impressively at 5 ½ furlongs, fighting hard for the win. Lady Lauren has been timely prepared for the Hot Line, with some useful exercise spins. Given the expected improvement, Lady Lauren has every chance of winning.
- NERISSA’S ANGEL is a grey filly (February 20) by Midnight Hawk out of Amicable, trained by Alford Brown with Oshane Nugent in the saddle. Nerissa’s Angel is the only filly in the 2014 Hot Line with only one start. That winning start was on February 20 at 5 ½ furlongs in a time of 1:10.0. She has caught the eyes in the mornings, giving her an open opportunity for success.
- COMEHOMETOME is a bay filly (January 29) by Northern Giant out of Heart of Gold, trained by Jason DaCosta with Reyan Lewis riding. Failed to deliver on March 9, finished second behind Matuso. Having raced on seven occasions, Comehometome has the experience, giving her a good chance of winning, plus the distance of six furlongs is about right.
- FASTNFURIOUSLINKS is a grey filly (February 15) by Casual Trick out of Another Fury, trained by Barrington Bernard with Paul Francis aboard. This filly finished third in the Jamaica Two-Year-Old Stakes albeit way behind the winner. In her only outing as a three-year-old, Fastnfuriouslinks disappointed with an out-of-character performance. Seems to have found herself again, with some noticeable spins at exercise. Fastnfuriouslinks cannot be denied a chance of winning.
- BANADURA is a bay filly (March 21) by Casual Trick out of Esperanza, trained by Jason DaCosta with Robert Halledeen in the irons. Note that Banadura races with the tongue tie on. This filly is known for her speed. Banadura won the first two-year-old race on August 1, 2023. Since then, she has raced twice, delivering poor efforts. Will need to best at her best to win this one.
- MS CHERRY is a bay filly (March 13) by Sensational Slam out of Fiftyshadesofray, trained by Richard Azan with Tevin Foster aboard. Note that MS Cherry races with the figure 8 on. Won on debut (Sept 30, 2023) coming the straight five chute, then in December was a no show in the Two-Year-Old Stakes. Makes her three-year-old debut in this event, yet she cannot be left out of the reckoning.
- O SO SMART is a chestnut filly (May 24) by Soul Warrior out of Patchwork, trained by Steven Todd with Matthew Bennett in the irons. Note that O So Smart races with the tongue tie off. Given the openness of this contest, O So Smart has to be considered.
- BLU SENSATIONAL is a bay filly (February 12) by Sensational Slam out of Blues In The Grass, trained by Peter-John Parsard with Raddesh Roman aboard. This filly has to find more than extra to win this one.
