A competitive group of eight three-year-old maidens takes centre stage in Saturday’s eighth event, tackling a distance of 6 ½ furlongs. With several contenders showing promising early form and key equipment changes in play, the outcome looks poised to hinge on who makes the best use of the additional furlong.
The Quick Galloper analysis shared below.
1 – ONE IAN LINKS
Bay colt (May 15) by Casual Trick out of Darlin
Trainer – Barrington Bernard
Jockey – Demar Williams
Gradually coming along and learning his craft, but looks to need more time and development before making a serious impact in this company.
2 – CHEDWRICK HUMOR
Chestnut colt (April 21) by Verve’s Humor out of Grey Express Trainer – Fitzgerald Richards
Jockey – Dane Dawkins
Made an eye-catching racecourse debut two weeks ago, finishing a close second by a neck over six furlongs while finishing full of power. He looks primed to relish the extra half-furlong, and another strong performance is well within reach.
3 – KING KID
Chestnut colt (March 20) by Sensational Slam out of Princess Geeta
Trainer – Jason DaCosta
Jockey – Tevin Foster
This bred-for-speed colt unveiled his talent nearly two weeks ago, making late gains to secure third place—just 2 ½ lengths behind the winner over five furlongs straight. That late-closing effort strongly hints that the added distance will suit him well, and coupled with solid morning trackwork, he should be right in the thick of things.
4 – TOTAL ECLIPSE
Bay colt (April 10) by Savoy Stomp out of My Episode
Trainer – Alford Brown
Jockey – Shane Richardson
Equipment change – Blinkers on
A seasoned campaigner compared to some of his rivals, his best career performance remains a solid runner-up spot over the five-furlong straight course. Consistently holding his form, the fitting of blinkers could sharpen him up enough to make him a reliable contender for exotic wagers.
5 – CAYSON
Chestnut colt (February 18) by Successful Native out of Arthur’s Dream
Trainer – Lydia Anglin
Jockey – Evertte Clunis
Has shown little in his two career outings so far and still appears to be searching for his true racing rhythm.
6 – SHE’S IDEAL
Bay filly (May 14) by Sensational Slam out of Winesha
Trainer – Robert Pearson
Jockey – Shaheem Gordon
Equipment change – Blinkers on, cheek pieces off
Disappointed expectations when heavily supported on September 19, failing to figure prominently. The barn has responded with notable equipment adjustments that could spark a sharp turnaround, and her lively morning workouts suggest she remains capable of much better.
7 – SMOKIN DON
Roan gelding (April 23) by Smokin Man out of My Queen
Trainer – Rowan Mathie
Jockey – Joy Haynes
Equipment change – Blinkers
Failed to show any competitive spark on his racecourse introduction two weeks ago. Has blinkers added today, but substantial improvement is required.
8 – MAC DON’T SMOKE
Chestnut colt (April 24) by Smokin Man out of Lady Elaine Trainer – Oraldo Chin
Jockey – Emelio McLean
Has been well beaten in all four of his starts to date without threatening the leaders. Hard to envision a reversal of fortunes in this spot.
