Since graduating from the Jamaica Racing Commission (JRC) Jockey’s Training School in December 2024, many members of the apprentice class have steadily built successful professional careers at Caymanas Park.

Leading the standings is the promising young rider from Lionel Town in Clarendon, Tajay Suckoo, who has made 67 visits to the winner’s enclosure as of the latest race day on Sunday, August 31, 2026.

Suckoo is also one of three graduates from his cohort to reach or surpass the 60 -win milestone, a mark that excludes the special apprentice races run as part of the Training School’s development programme.

Joining him in the 60-win club are fellow Lionel Town native Richie Shakes, with 63 wins, and Demar Williams, who has recorded 60 victories.

Having crossed the 60-win threshold, all three riders have now officially lost their right to claim (bug) an apprentice weight allowance, transitioning to full jockey status.
