Bow Echo (10/11 favourite), owned by the Exors of the late Sheikh Mohammed Obaid Al Maktoum.
Gstaad (4/1), ridden by Ryan Moore and trained by Aidan O'Brien, finishing half a length behind.
Opera Ballo (9/2), ridden by William Buick and trained by Charlie Appleby, finished third.
By overcoming a late-race traffic block to win, Bow Echo became the first horse since Frankel in 2011 to land the 2,000 Guineas, St James's Palace Stakes, and Sussex Stakes in the same season.
