Blue Vinyl produced one of the most dramatic finishes of the season to capture the $1.25‑million Liu Chie Poo Trophy at Caymanas Park on Saturday, June 13, 2026.
For much of the final quarter‑mile, the race looked destined for Supremasi, who had swept past Sheer Delight and was powering home with authority. The crowd was already on its feet when champion jockey Raddesh Roman, biding his time on the inside, found the smallest of openings.
Roman had kept Blue Vinyl tucked away throughout, saving ground around the half‑mile turn while others did the heavy lifting. Supremasi struck the front in deep stretch and appeared certain to score, but Roman’s patience proved decisive. In the final furlong, Blue Vinyl surged through the gap on the fence, lunging at the wire to snatch victory by a head.
The mile (1,600m) was completed in 1:37.3, with sectional times of 23.4, 46.1, 1:11.2, and 1:24.2. Interestntimesahead closed late to secure third.
Trainer Gary Subratie admitted he thought the race was gone at the quarter pole. “I thought he was done leaving the quarter. But he got the inside run and that was what helped him. He is getting better as he gets older, physical wise,” he said in his post-race interview.
Roman, who has partnered Blue Vinyl through ups and downs, was equally satisfied. “The trainer did not have to give me any instruction because I know that horse like my son. The trainer just told me to ride my own race. He is a nice horse, he had his issues and that is his main issue. Once he has gotten over that, he will be one of the good ones,” he explained.
Blue Vinyl’s last‑stride victory was a reminder of his resilience and a signal that he may yet rise to greater heights in Overnight Allowance company.
