Whenever the Prince Consort and Thornbird Stakes roll around, punters know the first three-year-old Classics are just about to take centre stage.

The Prince Consort Stakes is contested by three-year-old colts and geldings over seven furlongs, with the 2026 renewal set for Saturday, April 11.

Here’s an update from The Quick Galloper on the current status of the seven runners from the 2025 Prince Consort Stakes, listed in finishing order:

FIRST – HONOUR PRINCE

Honour Prince was awarded the Prince Consort victory in the stewards’ room after Runaway Star was disqualified. Following that April 2025 success, injuries kept him sidelined until March 28, 2026, when he returned with a strong second behind foreign raider The Teacha. With his natural ability, a clean bill of health could see him fulfill his potential.

SECOND – RUNAWAY STAR

Runaway Star lost the Prince Consort in the stewards’ room but later ran a close second in The Kingston, just half a length behind Sensational Soul. Unfortunately, injuries prevented him from contesting the Classics, and he has not raced since. Recently back in morning exercise, he looks poised to reappear on raceday soon.

THIRD – MARK MY IDENTITY

Struggled in the other prep races and Classics, but blossomed afterward. Mark My Identity quickly progressed through his conditions to reach Overnight Allowance, where he is now performing consistently. His improvement is a testament to his connections’ patience.

FOURTH – I DREAM AGAIN

After finishing fourth here, I Dream Again soared to Classic glory, winning both the Jamaica St Leger and the Jamaica Derby in 2025. Since then, he has found Overnight company challenging. Following a 126-day break, he is set to return to competitive action this Saturday.

FIFTH – MR LEE

Still working to clear his conditions and establish himself.

SIXTH – PRINCE ROY

Has proven a disappointment so far, lingering without notable progress.

SEVENTH – STRONG MIND

Continues to strive for improvement, though yet to make a significant breakthrough.
