Mahogany Retires After Stellar Career

Kingston, Jamaica – After approximately six years of racing, Mahogany, the now nine-year-old chestnut gelding by Sensational Slam out of Mete-Orite, has retired from competition.

Throughout his long and trophy filled career, Mahogany was trained by Ian Parsard and owned by P Ellis, H Pratt, T Pragnell, and K Parsard. He was bred by Clovis Metcalfe.

  • Career earnings just under $21 million
  • Major wins included the Port Royal Sprint, the Gold Cup, the Ian Levy Cup, and the Viceroy Trophy among others.

Mahogany’s final race was on September 13, 2025. His last victory came on April 21, 2025, in the Easter Spring Cup over 5 ½ furlongs.

“Mahogany has been a true champion and a joy to train despite his many issues,” said trainer Parsard. “His performances brought excitement to fans and pride to his connections. We are grateful for his contribution to racing.”

Mahogany’s retirement concludes a career that places him among the notable thoroughbreds to race at Caymanas Park.

  1. the icon of sprint in modern times, MAHOGONY who can forget the 2000 guiness of 2017 when ridden by d.dawkings he ran 1:08 :00 for the first six furlongs, eventually gave way to WOW WOW in the straight who skittled away for victory under jockey r.halladeen
