The countdown to the 2025 renewal of the prestigious Mouttet Mile is firmly underway following the conclusion of the final ‘Win And You’re In’ qualifiers – the Port Royal Sprint and the Jamaica Cup – staged on Sunday, November 16. The showpiece event is set for Saturday, 6 December.

After careful deliberation, the odds-makers have released their opening market, and Legacy Isle has been installed as the early 8-5 favourite. Victorious in the seven-furlong Gold Cup and runner-up in last year’s Mouttet Mile, Legacy Isle is striking peak form at precisely the right moment. Freshened and finely tuned, he will enter the stalls in December primed for battle.

THE MAIN CONTENDERS

  • Rideallday (2-1) The three-year-old foreign raider has announced himself as a rising force. After finishing second in the Gold Cup, he produced a storming late run to capture the six-furlong Port Royal Sprint – a perfect dress rehearsal for the Mile.
  • Supernatural Power (5-2) Fourth in the Gold Cup after a poor break, she nonetheless unleashed a powerful surge in the straight. With a smoother start, she is expected to mount a serious challenge on December 6.
  • Mojito (3-1) The Jamaica Cup winner has rediscovered his best form, propelling him into contention as the leading locally bred runner. His resurgence has been rewarded with shortened odds.
  • Run Julie Run (6-1) Courageous in defeat, she fought hard to finish third in the Jamaica Cup, just two lengths behind Mojito and runner-up Girvano. Her tenacity has earned her a prominent place in the betting.
  • Barnaby (8-1) The first horse to book his ticket to the Mile courtesy of victory in the Ian Levy Cup earlier this year. Though absent from recent competition, his running style and targeted preparation keep him firmly in the mix.
  • Girvano (10-1) Runner-up in the Jamaica Cup, Girvano is renowned for his strong finishing bursts. At a mile, his best chance lies in securing a top-four placing.

OTHERS IN THE FRAME

Dothraki has been dismissed from serious consideration following a lacklustre showing in the Port Royal Sprint. Meanwhile, two foreign entrants – Fortuna Belle, trained by Robert Pearson, and Nautical Star, conditioned by Anthony Nunes – have secured guaranteed places but will be assessed closer to race day before odds are assigned.
