With December’s Mouttet Mile looming as the season’s ultimate prize, Philip Feanny’s grey filly Supernatural Power delivered a timely reminder of her class and potential, cruising to a decisive victory in Monday’s Viceroy Trophy (October 20, 2025). The American-bred three-year-old daughter of Cross Traffic out of Urquia now heads into Jamaica’s richest race with renewed momentum.
Ridden by Panamanian jockey Dick Cardenas, Supernatural Power dominated the Open Allowance contest for three-year-olds and upward over one mile, winning by a comfortable two-length margin. Her final time of 1:36.2 was carved from sharp splits of 23.4, 46.2, 1:11.1, and 1:23.3, an efficient and authoritative display.
Trainer Feanny, satisfied with the result, emphasized its strategic importance:
“This was a nice race. It’s a prep towards the major objective which is the Mouttet Mile,” he said. “Unfortunately, the prep was the recent Gold Cup and she didn’t win that, so we had to find another prep. This is her final race before the Mouttet Mile.”
Breaking smartly from the gates with the addition of a visor, Cardenas opted for restraint, allowing Mamma Mia (Jerome Innis) and stablemate Major Danger (Dane Dawkins) to take early control. Settled in third, Supernatural Power found her rhythm along the backstretch, conserving energy while tracking the leaders.
Her move came approaching the half-mile (800m) turn. With a smooth surge, she swept past her rivals and assumed command. Tiz Tok, ridden by Raddesh Roman, emerged as the main threat, slipping into second and launching a challenge in the deep stretch. But Supernatural Power, responding gamely to Cardenas’s guidance, pulled away with purpose to seal the win.
Tiz Tok finished second, a distant 19¾ lengths ahead of Major Danger, who faded into third.
THE QUICK GALLOPER’S VERDICT
Supernatural Power has found her stride at the right time. With tactical maturity, a sharp turn of foot, and renewed focus, she heads into the Mouttet Mile not just as a contender, but as a filly with unfinished business. Feanny’s rerouted prep may prove to be just right.
