The fourth race on Saturday, September 27, 2025, marked the official unveiling of Sir Don, an American-bred bay colt whose morning gallops had already stirred considerable attention among racing insiders.

By post time, speculation had shifted into expectation. The colt, trained by Anthony Nunes and sired by Spun To Run out of Enarmored, was making his competitive debut over four furlongs against seven other juveniles.

Sir Don broke evenly from the gate under jockey Raddesh Roman, settled quickly into stride, and then accelerated with measured authority down the straight. Roman, maintaining a composed posture throughout, guided the colt to a clear victory without urging. The final time was recorded at 46.4 seconds, with sectional splits of 23.4 and 34.4 seconds.

Trainer Nunes, speaking after the race, acknowledged the colt’s readiness and physical development.

“Sir Don showed enough in the mornings to indicate he was above the current juvenile standard. He’s well put together and should continue to improve as he matures into his three-year-old season,” Nunes said.

He also noted the personal significance of the win: “This horse was one of the last brought to Jamaica by the late Don Wehby. Don had a particular fondness for him, and it’s an honour to win this race in his memory.”

Sir Don’s victory adds to a growing narrative in the juvenile division. So far in 2025, four races have been staged for two-year-olds. Nunes has secured two wins, Sir Don and Fernando, while Gary Subratie has also won two, with Salute The Don and God’s Plan.

Notably, three of these winners, Salute The Don, God’s Plan, and Sir Don are owned by Oakridge Farms, the entity operated by Don Wehby.

THE QUICK GALLOPER’S VERDICT

Sir Don’s debut was efficient and decisive. His time and splits confirm the promise shown in morning works. With physical scope and a proven trainer, he enters the juvenile conversation as a colt to monitor closely. The Oakridge juvenile trio, Salute The Don, God’s Plan, and Sir Don now form the early backbone of the 2025 two-year-old narrative.
