Trainer Fitzgerald Richards, known in racing circles as “Treadie,” broke a 2025 winless streak on Saturday, August 23, in the opening event at Caymanas Park. From 17 previous starts this year, Richards had yet to secure a victory—until God of Love delivered a decisive performance in a five-furlong round claiming race tagged at $500,000–$400,000.

Ridden by apprentice Richie Shakes, God of Love went straight to the lead and maintained control throughout. The nine-year-old gelding widened his advantage in the final furlong to win by 7¾ lengths. The final time was 1:02.2, with sectional splits of 24.0 and 48.4 seconds.

The 4-5 favourite Cataba, piloted by Dane Dawkins, chased but never threatened, finishing second. Great Trick, under Shane Ellis, completed the top three.

Richards acknowledged the challenges of the season and credited God of Love for breaking the drought.

“It has been a long wait for me. It has been difficult, but once again God of Love has been the one to come to my aid,” Richards told Quickgallopja.com. “Going ahead, my task is to use the resources available at the stables as best as I can to get more wins.”

God of Love has now won 17 races from 69 career starts. His latest effort suggests there may still be competitive outings ahead, particularly in lower-level claiming company.
