Ninth Event – Saturday, August 16, 2025

Race Type: Overnight Allowance

Distance: Six furlongs

Starters: 11

Honouring: Arthur ‘Daddy’ Jones – Legendary Jockey

The curtain comes down on Saturday’s nine-race card with the Arthur Jones Memorial Cup, a competitive Overnight Allowance sprint that promises a blistering pace and tactical intrigue.

Eleven runners line up over six furlongs, with several speedsters and closers poised to make their mark.

1 – MAMMA MIA - Back from a tough outing in Open Allowance, where she couldn’t match strides with Funcaandun and Desert of Malibu. Now back in her comfort zone, Mamma Mia’s raw speed and class drop make her a prime contender. The six-furlong trip suits her perfectly, though she must overcome the challenge of top weight.

2 – JAMES - Still adjusting to the Overnight Allowance level. Shows potential but needs more time to develop against seasoned rivals.

3 – FEARLESS FORCE - Already a winner at this level. Tactically sound, stalks the pace and strikes late. The four-kilogramme claim is a bonus, and with speed expected up front, Fearless Force could be perfectly positioned to pounce.

4 – HERE COMES DOC - Debuts in Overnight Allowance. Likely to need a few runs to settle into this class.

5 – SONNY T AND CHIPPY - Returns from a lacklustre claiming effort. Needs to show significant improvement to factor here.

6 – CAPTAIN CALICO - Scratched at the gate on July 26. Returns with figure eight and a more experienced rider. Has shown promise over longer distances in this class; six furlongs may be a touch short.

7 – TEFLON DON - Chasing back-to-back wins, both at this trip. A front-runner by nature, but with stablemate Mamma Mia also possessing early dash, Teflon Don must be ridden with precision to avoid a speed duel.

8 – PERFECT BREW - Nine starts this season with consistent minor placings. A late-running sprinter who could benefit from a fast early pace. Dangerous if the leaders falter.

9 – GET A PEPSI - Two runs into his comeback and improving steadily. Proven at this level and now partnered with Dane Dawkins, a combination that demands respect.

10 – IMMEASURABLE JOY - Faces a steep challenge against this field. Needs a major step forward to contend.

11 – JUSTIN BIG TIME - Finished fourth behind Supernatural Power last time out, beaten 5½ lengths. Not a win threat but worth considering for the exotics.

Quick Galloper’s Verdict

Expect fireworks early with Mamma Mia and Teflon Don vying for the lead. Fearless Force and Perfect Brew look poised to capitalize if the pace collapses. Get A Pepsi is the dark horse with upside, while Justin Big Time could sneak into the frame.
