KINGSTON, Jamaica—The BGLC—TOBA Millionaire Series will continue on Sunday, February 23, 2025, with an exciting event that promises thrilling competition.
This race features native-bred three-year-olds and older (non-winners of two) alongside a maiden call for three-year-old importees.
Out of the 13 contenders set to race over a distance of 6 ½ furlongs, eight are bred overseas.
Here’s the Quick Galloper’s assessment of the participants:
1 - BOWMORE: This bay colt (USA, April 10) is by Complexity out of Colonel Dettwiller, trained by Phillip Lee with Dane Dawkins on board. After a lacklustre debut, Bowmore led the field down the five-furlong straight but faded to third in the final stretch. With noticeable improvement shown, Bowmore is a strong contender for exotic betting.
2 - NEPHEW: A bay colt (USA, March 7) by Uncle Vinnie out of Boca Bloom, trained by Owen Sharpe and ridden by Trevor Simpson. Nephew has been on an upward trend, finishing in the top three in his last two races. This gives him an outsider's chance of success.
3 - SHINE LIKE THE SKY: This chestnut filly (USA, February 27) by Unified out of Diamondette is trained by Norman Smith with Paul Francis riding. She has received positive reports from morning observers, although it appears that she may need more time to fully develop.
4 - FEARLESS MISSION: A chestnut filly (USA, April 10), Fearless Mission is by Maclean’s Music out of Duff One and trained by Oral Hayden, with Shane Ellis in the saddle. Having made the board in all four career starts, she faces tougher opponents here and will need to put in the effort to remain competitive.
5 - MY ECLIPSE: This bay colt (March 31) is by Sensational Slam out of My Episode, trained by Phillip Lee with Tajay Suckoo as the chosen jockey. He finished a close third against two foreign competitors on February 8 in his first outing in the non-winners of two category. My Eclipse should be watched closely.
6 - STRONG MIND: A bay colt (March 24), Strong Mind is by Casual Trick out of Charming Beauty, trained by Patrick Lynch with Dick Cardenas riding. He returns to the track after finishing third in the one-mile Jamaica Two-Year-Stakes in December 2024. The shorter distance of 6 ½ furlongs could suit him well.
7 - WAYNECHERRYLINKS: This bay filly (January 28) is by Hedge Fund out of So Smooth, trained by Barrington Bernard and piloted by Richard Henry. Waynecherrylinks will race without a visor. She was awarded victory in the stewards’ room in her last outing and will be tackling non-winners of two for the first time—a new challenge for her.
8 - MISS GROVE: A dark bay filly (Canada, March 29) by Amis Gizmo out of Marylyn’s Last Love, trained by Anthony Nunes with Reyan Lewis aboard. Unfortunately, recent performances from Canadian-bred horses have not been promising, putting her chances in question.
9 - H TWO O: This chestnut colt (USA, May 11) is by Divining Rod out of Trendy Wendy, trained by Jason DaCosta with Robert Halledeen riding. H Two O is generating buzz leading up to his long-awaited debut and is expected to start as the odds-on favourite following several impressive gallops.
10 - PRINCESS KRIS: A bay filly (USA, April 1) by Goldencents out of Sugar Babe, trained by Norman Smith and ridden by Chris Mamdeen. Although she is making progress, success may still be a distance away for her in this competitive field.
11 - MR LEE: This grey colt (April 7) is by Spieth out of Kipling Weekend, trained by Lee Clarke with Roger Hewitt riding. After an underwhelming performance in the Two-Year-Old Stakes, Mr Lee will make his first appearance in non-winners of two as part of his developmental journey.
12 - ALMASTY LIST: A brown filly (Canada, March 28) by Almasty out of My List, trained by Gregg Fennell and ridden by Omar Walker. Almasty List races with a figure eight on; however, her chances of winning appear slim.
13 - GIRVANO: This bay colt (USA, April 5) is by Girvin out of Summer In Midway, trained by Jason DaCosta with Raddesh Roman riding. With two starts under his belt and a pair of second-place finishes, Girvano is showing promise in morning training and could be a solid prospect for the exacta
