KINGSTON, Jamaica - Benson's victory in the six-furlong George HoSang Trophy on Saturday, January 18, 2025, was a significant achievement for the five-year-old bay colt, sired by Here Comes Ben out of First Kiss.

This win marked the fifth for Benson out of 16 starts, and it was particularly noteworthy as he competed in Overnight Allowance for the first time against a former Classic winner and a seasoned group of rivals.

Utilizing his well-known speed, Benson triumphed over his opponents by 1 ½ lengths, completing the race in a time of 1:14.3, with apprentice jockey Richie Shakes in the saddle.

Reflecting on Benson's journey to the Open Allowance level, it is essential to commend trainer Fitznahum Williams. A former groom for Derby winner Seeking My Dream, Williams has the notable distinction of conditioning a Triple Crown winner, Alsafra.

Known as "Features," Williams has consistently worked diligently in his training career, with Benson standing as a testament to his skills.

In a post-race interview, a delighted Williams expressed, “Words could not explain the achievements made by Benson. Benson is a special horse. He has speed, and in recent times he has been able to use that speed to his advantage, and the advantage of the connections. I am so pleased, I am happy, and there is more to come.”

When discussing Benson's prospects in the Open Allowance category, Williams remained cautiously optimistic. “Time will tell. I will continue to give him the best training possible, but I have confidence that he (Benson) will do well,” he concluded.
