KINGSTON, Jamaica - On Sunday, April 14, 2024, Tevin Foster solidified his lead in the jockey standings with a commanding five-win performance.
This achievement was particularly striking as it followed a Saturday where Foster did not manage to secure a single win, allowing his main competitor, Raddesh Roman, to narrow the lead down to 11 wins after Roman’s two successes on that day. Initially, Foster had 38 wins and Roman had 27 by the end of Saturday.
However, Foster's Sunday haul saw him reach a total of 43 wins, pushing the lead out to a considerable 16 wins over Roman, who remained at 27.
Despite Foster's sizeable lead, the race for the 2024 championship remains open with several race days yet to come, where any number of scenarios could unfold.
Foster's dominant display began with Dancing Aviator in Race 1 for trainer Jason DaCosta. He continued his winning streak with Cotterwood Kathy for trainer Ryan Darby in Race 2. After a short break, he claimed victory with "Commander Z" for trainer Spencer Chung in Race 4.
The triumphant day proceeded with two more wins: Intrestntimesahead for trainer Jason in Race 9, followed by Taurus Boy for trainer Philip Feanny in Race 10.
Foster’s collaboration with DaCosta for two of the five wins is particularly significant, as Foster, who usually works independently, is less commonly seen riding for DaCosta.
It is also significant is that one of the two winners ridden by Foster was champion three-year-old Intrestntimesahead in the Prince Consort Stakes.
In the Prince Consort, Foster was at his best.
Despite a rough start, Foster was patient, guiding his mount closer to the leading pack. He turned for home more on the inside rails, then surged forward with aplomb to winning pulling down with about half-a-furlong to go.
Based on the ride produced by Foster on Intrestntimesahead, it is relatively safe to assume that he will partner the champion juvenile in The Kingston and probably beyond.
