KINGSTON, Jamaica – Quickgallop.com revisits the 2022 Jamaica Two-Year-Old Stakes to assess the progress, or lack thereof, of the 10 starters from that race.

With the 2023 edition of the top juvenile race scheduled for Boxing Day, Tuesday, December 26th, this analysis follows their finishing order that  included a dead heat for second place.

FIRSTMojito: An impressive win led to Classic success in the 2000 Guineas. However, since then, Mojito has faced health issues and struggled to truly shine. He underperformed in the 12-furlong Jamaica Derby and didn't show up in the Mouttet Mile. It seems Mojito's connections have decided on a lengthy break to prepare him for his four-year-old season. Don't anticipate racing before May or June of 2024.

SECONDLegit Boss: After a successful two-year-old season and securing the title of top two-year-old filly in 2022, 2023 proved disappointing. She failed to make an impact in Classic races and struggled even in condition races. However, a late-season return to form bodes well for her four-year-old campaign.

SECONDMamma Mia: As the only three-year-old to win two of the five Classic races – the 1000 Guineas and Jamaica Oaks – she showed promise. A credible third-place finish against older horses in the Mouttet Mile suggests future success at higher levels.

FOURTHAnonymous: Surprisingly underdeveloped and still finding it difficult to complete his age group conditions.

FIFTHAll For Love: This filly experienced challenges during her three-year-old season.

SIXTHThalita: A stunning victory in the 10-furlong Jamaica St Leger in July put Thalita as a Derby favorite but ultimately fell short. The absence from regular exercise since then hints at a period of recovery.

SEVENTHBurlap: Consistently considered valuable, yet hindered by inconsistent behavior. Burlap regained some order and reached the Overnight Allowance level late in the year.

EIGHTH – Uncharter: The less said, the better.

NINTH – Show Girl: No notable achievements to report.
