KINGSTON, Jamaica - Richard Azan, trainer of the four-year-old bay horse Perfect Brew, has shared his delight at the horse's remarkable progress.

In light of recent successes, Azan has entered Perfect Brew in the Ian Levy Cup, taking place on January 1, 2024.

Perfect Brew demonstrated a significant step up in performance with a commanding victory at the top-rated Open Allowance on December 16, 2023. This followed his run at the Mouttet Mile, where he managed a respectable fifth place. Despite stepping down in grade for this race, Perfect Brew's triumph was anticipated.

The race lost a bit of its competitive spirit due to the late withdrawal of Rani Bangala. However, Perfect Brew put on a thrilling performance, pulling off a late surge to win the seven-furlong event by an impressive 5 1/2 lengths.

Azan expressed his satisfaction with Perfect Brew's showing, stating, "He ran as I hoped, and I plan to enter him in the Ian Levy Cup in January 2024. He continues to improve with each outing and has shown tremendous progress."

In an interesting race strategy, Perfect Brew held third place instead of leading the pack. He observed as his stablemate Laban set the pace, followed by Freedom Street. As Laban began to pull ahead on the backstretch, anticipation amongst the bettors increased.

In the saddle, jockey Tevin Foster held his nerve, commencing their run near the distance marker. Perfect Brew started to build momentum as they entered the final curve just behind the leaders.

Perfect Brew took control in the last furlong and a half, distancing himself from Freedom Street and Laban. With a time of 1:25.2 (23.2 x 46.0 x 1:10.4), Rainsville completed the four-horse field.
