KINGSTON, Jamaica – The 2023 Winston "Fanna" Griffiths Classic offers a chance for three-year-olds to shine, having not been able to compete successfully in the five Classic races.
The Fanna Griffiths spans nine and a half furlongs.
Below is the Quick Galloper analysis:
1 – ESSENTIAL QUALITY, a chestnut filly (April 16) by Sensational Slam out of Texas Missy, is trained by Oral Hayden with Raddesh Roman riding; she can be ruled out.
2 – LIFE IS LIFE, a bay colt (February 18) by Natural Selection out of Little Wasp, is trained by Jason DaCosta with Jerome Innis aboard; he has no realistic chance of winning.
3 – PRINCESS SHARON, a bay filly (February 15) by Soul Warrior out of Princess Shine, is trained by Fitzroy Glispie with Paul Francis in the saddle. Did well in her Classic races, and those efforts has an outside chance of being a winner.
4 – BURLAP, a bay colt (March 18) by Casual Trick out of Fedora, is trained by Richard Azan with Javaniel Patterson aboard. Rapidly developing, Burlap will try two-turn for the first time, and if he controls himself at the gates and during the race, he could play a part in the final outcome.
5 – MONEY MISER, a chestnut colt (May 16) by Soul Warrior out of She's Traditional, is trained by Fitzroy Glispie with Shamaree Muir in the saddle. He represents this trophy race's classic contender due to his second-place finishes in the 2000 Guineas, St Leger, and Jamaica Derby. Money Miser is the favoured choice based on his recent performances.
6 – CALIFORNIA GOLD, a bay colt (April 6) by Lion Tamer out of Blue Saphira, is trained by Patrick Lynch with Ramon Nepare aboard. His negligible run in the Derby means his chances of winning this race are low. Note that California Gold races with blinkers off.
7 – POWER FROM ABOVE, a chestnut filly (February 25) by Key To Power out of Blufield, is trained by Anthony Nunes with Dane Dawkins in the saddle. She shows promise and could place.
8 – RICHIE RICH, a chestnut colt (January 31) by Soul Warrior out of Red Gold, is trained by Jason DaCosta with Reyan Lewis in the saddle. Richie Rich's best hope is finishing in the top six thereby earning for his connections.
9 – STRIKE SMART, a bay colt (February 16) by Wannabeaplayer out of Profile, is trained by Phillip Elliott with Omar Walker aboard. Even with the blinkers on, Strike Smart can be left out of consideration.
