KINGSTON, Jamaica - Caymanas Park hosted nine races on Saturday, August 12, 2023.

Out of these nine races, two jockeys secured six victories - champion Dane Dawkins claimed a triple win, as did the current leading rider Reyan Lewis.

At present, Lewis has secured 70 victories from 257 rides, maintaining a lead of 17 wins over Dawkins in second place.

With renowned riders like Anthony Thomas, Robert Halledeen, Dane Nelson, and Shane Ellis competing overseas, Lewis, Dawkins, and third-place contender Tevin Foster now dominate the scene.

Many racing fans are left wondering if the championship is already decided. However, The Quick Galloper assures that it's not over yet; there are still four and a half months left in the season and anything can happen.

Lewis' success is partly due to his fruitful partnership with leading trainer Jason DaCosta - a major advantage in his pursuit of a first title.

While primarily riding for DaCosta, Lewis has managed to secure victories with other trainers such as Patrick Lynch, Ian Parsard, and Gary Subratie.

Dawkins, on the other hand, is not tied to any one stable and rides for various trainers. There is still time for him to close the gap with Lewis unless any obstacles crop up for either jockey.

As of August 12, only two apprentices - Roger Hewitt and Matthew Bennett - made it into the top ten jockey list.

Bennett is enjoying a breakthrough year but continues to hone his skills.

It's also worth noting that long-serving reinsman Paul Francis is in seventh place with 17 wins; affectionately known as "Country," he has remained consistently successful throughout his career.

Below is the top ten list of the jockeys' championships.
