KINGSTON, Jamaica - Five-year-old bay gelding Den Street easily obliged as the favourite in a three-year-old and upwards Claiming ($750,000-$600,000) race over 5 ½ furlongs (1,100m).
Trained by Dennis Thwaites and ridden by Anthony Thomas, Den Street got out of his stall in good order. He chased Aphelios (Phillip Parchment) from second place in the early exchanges. Going into the half-mile turn, Den Street surged to the front and was immediately challenged by Mine That Cat (Tevin Foster), and the two drew away from the field.
Mine That Cat, running the inside rails, pointed on Den Street, but the latter regained the lead turning for home and took complete control of the race in deep stretch. Den Street went on to win the race by 5 ¼ lengths ahead of Denbigh Life (Bebeto Harvey), who was 5 ¾ lengths ahead of Mine That Cat in third place. The final time for the event was a smooth 1:08.0.
