KINGSTON, Jamaica – The nine-race Labour Day card of Monday, April 23, 2022, which includes a mandatory payout in the Ketch 9 wager, got off to a safe start for most punters as the 3-5 odds-on favourite Sparkle Diamond duly obliged.
Racing in a $1,000,000 - $800,000 claiming call at 6 ½ furlongs, Sparkle Diamond under the guidance of Shane Ellis for champion trainer Anthony Nunes, simply bided his time in mid-pack before letting loose during the stretch run to win by five lengths. Azaria (Paul Francis) ended in second place with Alexa’s Lodge (Dick Cardenas) third.
Sparkle Diamond was claimed for $1 million.
