KINGSTON, Jamaica – In a fairy tale ending to the Classic Weekend of racing, trainer Anthony Nunes achieved his greatest ever stack of Classic winners as he landed the Guineas double when in a run that bespoke total class, Supreme Soul mangled rivals to win the 45th running of the Jamaica 2000 Guineas at Caymanas Park just moments ago.
And to add to his achievement of four winners yesterday (Saturday, April 13), and three today (Sunday, April 14) Nunes finished second and fifth in the 2000.
Supreme Soul was ridden by Shane Ellis. Toona Ciliata finished second with Sentient third and Duke fourth.
The winning time was 1:38.4. The spits were 23.2 x 45.3 x 1:10.0.
Nunes became the third trainer in recent history to win the Guineas double in the same year, following in the footsteps of Gary Subratie and Wayne DaCosta.
It was Nunes' third win in the 2000 and the same is true for Ellis as well.
