KINGSTON, Jamaica – After six attempts, and racing with both the blinkers and figure 8 on, foreigner Luksol in a determined effort got to the winning post in front in the Caymanas Saturday (April 23) seventh.
That event was a three-year-old (non-two) for local bred horses and a maiden for overseas bred horses.
Luksol with champion jockey Anthony Thomas in the saddle for trainer Jason DaCosta was not the best away as Nomoredeals (Aaron Chatrie) from the one draw shot to the lead followed by Lacrimae (Youville Pinnock) and Blue Vinyl (Dick Cardenas).
After a furlong and a half, Thomas tried to push Luksol forward but was hampered, dropping back to second to last. Rounding the half-mile turn it was still a resolute Nomoredeals on the headline, as Luksol again got into heavy traffic.
Nomoredeals took the bunch into the straight, with Luksol getting a clear run on the inside rails. Under strong urging from Thomas, Luksol found his best stride to power by the leader for her first win.
Nomoredeals was second and Blue Vinyl third.
