KINGSTON, Jamaica – Morimoto, a bay colt by Casual Trick out of Lucky Be Good got his hat into the male Classic picture with a resounding victory in the Caymanas Easter Monday seventh.
Racing for the second occasion, Morimoto with Robert Halledeen in the saddle for champion trainer Anthony Nunes, was successful in a three-year-old maiden special weight event at 6 ½ furlongs. Morimoto completed a natural hat-trick for Nunes who earlier had wins with Aphelios and Amy The Butcher.
Halledeen wasted no time in getting Morimoto into the lead when the starting barriers were opened by the starter and although shadowed by, I Realise (Anthony Thomas), for probably the first two furlongs, was never in any danger.
In the straight, Halledeen just had to keep Morimoto up to his work, and that he did, bringing home his mount by 6 ¼ lengths.
I Realise finished second and Get A Pepsi (Hakeem Pottinger) third.
Morimoto clocked the respectable time of 1:20.0 for the distance covered.
