KINGSTON, Jamaica – After four lukewarm performances in 2022, Duke gave firm notice that he is back to his sprinting best with a facile victory in the Caymanas Sunday seventh – a three-year-old and upwards Open Allowance call going five furlongs round.
Jockey Dane Dawkins settled Duke in third place after the starter sent the field of seven on their way behind early leader Secret Identity (Matthew Bennett) and Nuclear Noon (Robert Halledeen).
Halfway during the race, Halledeen pushed Nuclear Noon into the lead as Dawkins gradually moved the Gary Subratie trainee close into contention on the outside.
Turning for home, it was Nuclear Noon in the lead but only just as Duke got rolling on the outside to quickly get rid of all and sundry, winning by four lengths in a final time of 59.1 seconds after splits of 22.3 x 45.3. Secret Identity galloped resolutely to regain second with Nuclear Noon third.
