KINGSTON, Jamaica – Dezzy The Genius with Dick Cardenas aboard got the ball rolling on the Easter Sunday nine-race programme at Caymanas Park at odds of 5-1.
Dezzy The Genius trained by Fernando Geddes earned his sixth career victory from 68 starts in a three-year-old and upwards Optional Claimer ($550,000 - $450,000) going a mile.
It was Graydon (Shane Ellis) and Nuclear Emma (Abigail Able) who disputed the early lead with Dezzy The Genius having to make up ground after a slow starter. Graydon went in front after two furlongs were completed with Dezzy The Genius getting much closer as the horses spun into the half-mile turn.
Graydon entered the straight with the advantage, but Dezzy The Genuis quickly scooted by and then moved on to win by 3 ½ lengths. Doctor Grey (Javaniel Patterson) came from nowhere to finish second with Nuclear Emma in the third slot.
For Geddes, it was his first in 2022 from 12 starts.
