KINGSTON, Jamaica – The Supreme Ventures Racing and Entertainment Limited 5th Anniversary Trophy at five and a half furlongs promises to be a heated sprint contest with the top speedsters presently available rubbing shoulders.
There are seven starters in this three-year-old and upwards Open Allowance/Graded Stakes event.
THE QUICK GALLOPER provides an assessment of each of the seven runners.
Laban, a five-year-old bay horse by Sensational Slam out of For Trixie, returns from a long break of 68 days, and immediately faces the best sprinters. He is going to be left behind.
Father Patrick, is a six-year-old bay gelding by Nuclear Wayne out of Late Appeal, who was last year crowned as the leading sprinter among the older horses. Father Patrick is quite versatile as he has known speed but can easily race close to the pace setter/s and then run on in the final part of the race. Father Patrick opened his 2022 racing season with a second-place finish behind Eagle One in the Eileen Cliggott Memorial Trophy over 6 ½ furlongs (1,300m). Then Father Patrick walked out of the starting gates and had to use up plenty of energy to get back to the leaders and watered down in the straight. If all goes well here then Father Patrick should be hard to beat.
Eagle One is a five-year-old bay gelding bred in the United States by Astrology out by Frisky Cheerleader, who is the top earner thus far in 2022. Racing against these speedsters is not an easy task and he will be hard-pressed against the principals.
Duke is a six-year-old grey horse by Casual Trick out of Lady Macbeth, who rejoins the racing game after a rest of 28 days. In his seasonal debut on February 5, Duke finished in fourth place behind Eagle One, Father Patrick, and Nuclear Noon in the recent Eileen Cliggott Memorial Trophy at 6 ½ furlongs. Although facing both Eagle One and Father Patrick here and with much speed present, the race could develop in Duke’s favour. Duke is mainly a run-on sprinter who will wait to pounce when required.
Secret Identity is a four-year-old bay filly by Bern Identity of Pomeroy’s Secret. This talented filly has developed well and is now racing in the big league for the first time. Secret Identity will have to wait before she can deal with these heavyweights.
Patriarch is a seven-year-old bay horse by Casual Trick out of Electrifying. Patriarch has been on fire of late having recorded three wins in a row and is now seeking his fourth in the Anniversary Trophy. Patriarch is the fastest horse in training right now and will go to the lead with 5 ½ furlongs well within his grasp. Whoever catches, if that can be achieved, will win.
God of Love is a six-year-old bay gelding by Adore The Gold out of Shanda DGod of Love has finished second in his last three races and the one before he was a winner. Gets a pull of 9 lb in the weights and with his capacity to hold and then run on, God of Love has every chance of winning.
