Double for jockey Dane Dawkins
KINGSTON, Jamaica – Dejae’s Boy with Dane Dawkins aboard for trainer Oneil “Sweety Man” Markland set the cats among the pigeons when winning the feature Ash Wednesday Trophy at searing odds of 19-1.
The Ash Wednesday Trophy was a three-year-old and upwards Overnight Allowance call at 6 ½ furlongs.
When the starter let them go, the 1-2 favourite She’s My Destiny (Anthony Thomas) stumbled badly but coupled up quickly to take the lead. Once She’s My Destiny took over, she was immediately challenged by Dejae’s Boy, who went clear rounding the turn, and when in the straight moved away with ease from the pack.
Dejae’s Boy won by 5 ¼ lengths in a time of 1:19.3. I’ve Got Magic (Tevin Foster) was second with Money Monster (Youville Pinnock) occupying the third slot.
Dejae’s Boy recorded a final time of 1:19.3, and was the second Ash Wednesday winner for Dawkins.
