KINGSTON, Jamaica – Showing true grit and determination Alexa’s Lodge doggedly held a strong gallop to win the Caymanas Saturday eighth.
This was Alexa’s Lodge’s second win in succession and it was the second on the day for jockey Dick Cardenas who opened the 10-race programme on Cataba.
Alexa’s Lodge prevailed in a four-year-old and upwards (non-winners of four) event travelling six furlongs. This now means that Alexa’s Lodge will next enter the fray at the Overnight Allowance level.
Cardenas had the Robert Pearson trainee close to the pace set by Speechless (Javaniel Pattterson) with 32-1 chance K D Rocket (Dane Dawkins) lurking in close touch.
K D Rocket took over rounding the bend and the race in the stretch developed into a showdown involving K D Rocket and Alexa’s Lodge. The two were at it hoof to hoof before Cardenas got Alexa’s Lodge to increase her tempo – pulling away to win by 2 ¼ lengths.
K D Rocket was second and Let Him Fly (Tevin Foster) third.
