KINGSTON, Jamaica – The brilliance of jockey Anthony Thomas came to the fore in the Caymanas Saturday nightcap with a compelling performance in the saddle on the Jason DaCosta trained Ianzha Links.
Racing in a three-year-old non-winners of two contest for fillies only, Ianzha Links and Thomas watched as Sure Curlin set off in front when the gates with the 10 starters were opened.
Sure Curlin’s lead was short lived as the speedy Vanessa (Linton Steadman) came a calling from the outside draw.
Rounding the turn for home, Vanessa was going strong as Ianzha Links could not cope.
In the lane for the final two furlongs it was still Vanessa in front of the pack but when Thomas switched Ianzha Links to the inside, the chestnut filly started to surge forward. Steadman and Vanessa were in for the fight and gave it their all but with Thomas - hand riding for the most part in the last half-a-furlong Ianzha Links made enough headway to win by half a length to close a double on the day for her rider.
Vanessa finished second with Buff Bay third.
