KINGSTON, Jamaica – A sustained and game effort by the bred in utero filly Speechless brought victory for her connections in the Caymanas Saturday sixth – the closing event of the Reggae-6 exotic wager.
Speechless success came in a four-year-old and upwards (non-winners of three) call going 5 ½ furlongs.
At the off, the horses from the outside draw Chitu Prince (Linton Steadman), Kholbear (Chris Mamdeen) and Speechless (Javaniel Patterson), and Triple Seven (Natalie Berger) from the inside scrambled for the lead with Chitu Prince eventually pulling away to establish himself with a clear advantage with 3 furlongs left to go in the contest.
Entering the straight, Chitu Prince was clear as jockey Steadman look set to land his triple.
Then in the final furlong Lava Boy (Tevin Foster) flowed on the scene and took the lead but Patterson (on the inside rails) brought Speechless forward and was able to nab Lava Boy on the line. Chitu Prince finished third.
Speechless is trained by Gary Crawford.
