KINGSTON, Jamaica – Under a well-executed ride by apprentice Jordan Barrett, Lady Magnum trained by Lorne Kirlew racing at odds of 5-1 tossed away the maiden tag in the Caymanas Saturday tenth. That first win by Lady Magnum came in three-year-old maiden contest going 5 ½ furlongs.
The young Barrett watch in third place - some three to four lengths away from the two horses fighting for supremacy on the headlines Beautiful Bran (Andre Powell) and Bridal Blush (Javaniel Patterson).
Beautiful Bran carried the runners into the straight but was quickly pounced on by Bridal Brush, who gained the lead and looked set to reach the winning post in front. But Barrett took Lady Magnum first in between horses and then got in top gear on the inside rails to get her neck in front where it mattered most.
Bridal Blush was second and Paraiso (Shane Ellis) third.
