KINGSTON, Jamaica – Katalina, a three-year-old chestnut filly after racing on Sunday last when she finished second by a head behind Magical Mood confirmed her developing form with a win by sheer grit and determination in the Caymanas Saturday second.
Katalina (Ride On Curlin – Alienate) with Javaniel Patterson in the saddle waited until a furlong went by in the contest before swooping to the lead.
Katalina trained by Gary Crawford, kept in front and at various stages of the race put away her rivals.
The Gary Crawford trained Katalina entered the final two furlongs on top with Hilly’s Vision (Dick Cardenas) looming.
Hilly’s Vision tried and tried to go in front but Patterson and Katalina were fighting resolutely and eventually found the winning post a length ahead of Hilly’s Vision with Seven Stars (Chris Mamdeen) third.
This was Patterson’s sixth winner for the year.
