No more speculation, no more debate, only raw speed, stamina, and the will to win will matter now. The time is nigh! It is time for the 2025 Mouttet Mile on Saturday, December 6, 2025.
Fifteen of the finest thoroughbreds in training line up for what is already being hailed as the race of the decade. Each contender carries not just the weight of expectation, but the hopes of owners, trainers, and fans who believe this is their moment.
This is not just another mile. It is the proving ground, the crucible where reputations are forged and legends are crowned. The Mouttet Mile has always been a test of brilliance, but in 2025 it promises to be something more, a definitive clash that will settle the season’s hierarchy once and for all.
The Quick Galloper gets in on the action by looking at the chances of each runner in the Mouttet Mile.
1 – FUNCAANDUN
The defending Mouttet Mile champion. For his six starts in 2025, Funcaandun carried the top weight of 126 lbs. In this year’s edition, he comes in at 119 lbs and with the figure eight on. At a mile, Funcaandun is particularly venomous, winning twice over that distance in his last eight starts. He appears to be peaking at the right time, as evidenced by sharp exercise timings. The main negative is the number one draw. Respect is due.
2 – PACK PLAYS
Has not finished worse than third in eight of his last ten starts. However, Pack Plays has not raced beyond seven furlongs in his last eight outings, raising doubts about his effectiveness at a mile. He likes to lead and is quick, but with other speedsters in the contest, front-running will be a stern test.
3 – TIZ TOK
This foreigner has nine starts with two wins to his credit. Tiz Tok is a run-on type, which suits this year’s Mouttet Mile given the abundance of speed. The likelihood is for a late charger to prevail, and this running style aligns perfectly with his jockey, Dane Nelson.
4 – LEGACY ISLE
Lost the 2024 Mouttet Mile by the narrowest of margins after setbacks leading into the race. In 2025, Legacy Isle has confirmed his class with five wins from eight starts, including the seven-furlong Gold Cup. He has enjoyed two months of preparation for this year’s Mile and has impressed in exercise drills. Without doubt, Legacy Isle will be seeking redemption for his connections.
5 – DOTHRAKI
Dothraki is difficult to assess. On his local debut, he shot to the front over 5 ½ furlongs, then shortened considerably, winning by just a length. On his return in the Port Royal Sprint (6 furlongs), he again led but faltered in the straight. Since then (November 16), he has worked like a horse on fire, galloping seven furlongs in 1:25.3 with the figure eight. Now equipped with visor and figure eight on raceday, it is anything goes for Dothraki.
6 – CHAMPION BUBBLER
Can be taken out of all consideration.
7 – NAUTICAL STAR
The mystery horse of this year’s Mile. Nautical Star was brought down specifically for this event. The five-year-old bay horse has a US record of three wins from 11 starts, his last success coming in December 2023. Since arriving in Jamaica, he has been explosive at morning exercise, catching the eyes of many. Only time will tell.
8 – SUPERNATURAL POWER
Supernatural Power was slow out of the box in the seven-furlong Gold Cup (October 4), finishing just 1 ¾ lengths fourth behind Legacy Isle. He returned on October 20 over a mile, racing close to the pace before taking over at the three. That was the perfect rehearsal for the Mile. Carrying just 112 lbs, Supernatural Power is poised for another strong effort.
9 – SENSATIONAL SOUL
One of only two locally bred horses in the event. Realistically, Sensational Soul has no chance.
10 – MAIN MISTRESS
Caused an upset when last seen on November 16, winning over a mile from start to finish. Steps up in grade here, which will be difficult, but she may still cause headlines difficulties for others.
11 – RIDEALLDAY
Just failed to catch Legacy Isle in the seven-furlong Gold Cup, finishing strongly, then had the perfect prep in the six-furlong Port Royal Sprint 12 days later. Rideallday can stalk and then quicken in the straight. He is comfortable at a mile, and with a dip in the handicaps, looks ready for his big breakthrough.
12 – UNSPUN
A former champion two-year-old who has not lived up to expectations. Cannot manage these at this time, even with the visor off.
13 – GIRVANO
Mr Consistent. Girvano is best coming from behind, and with plenty of speed expected, this three-year-old bay colt will be surging inside the final two furlongs. Look out for Girvano, who is seemingly coming to hand at the right time.
14 – DIGITAL ONE
This filly comes off a win in Overnight Allowance. Digital One has been inconsistent, making her difficult to judge. Still, if she is at her best, she could earn a spot on the board.
15 – MOJITO
The pride of the locally bred horses. Mojito again proved his undoubted class when smashing rivals in the Jamaica Cup over 9 ½ furlongs on November 16. He is in good condition, working well, and partnered by a top jockey. Mojito is ready to give his best.
THE QUICK GALLOPER’S VERDICT
This year’s Mouttet Mile is stacked with speed, setting the stage for a strong closer to prevail. Legacy Isle seeks redemption and looks primed, while Rideallday has the perfect profile for a breakthrough. Funcaandun, the defending champion, commands respect despite the tricky draw. Supernatural Power is well-handicapped and dangerous, and Girvano could be the late surprise. Mojito stands tall as the pride of Jamaica among the locally bred. And then there is Nautical Star — the mystery horse, explosive in morning exercise since arriving from the US, who could easily shake up the finish if he translates that brilliance to raceday.
