KINGSTON, Jamaica – Guided by a clinical ride by Oshane Nugent, Olde Wharf at odds of 6-1 got the 1000 Guineas race day (Saturday, June 4) underway moments ago at Caymanas Park.
Trained by Renex Burrell, Olde Wharf gained his fifth career victory from 39 starts in a three-year-old Optional Claiming ($550,000 - $450,000) event going seven furlongs.
From the gates opened, it was a tussle on the headlines between Diosa De Oro (Andre Martin) and Uncle Vinnie (Youville Pinnock).
Nugent kept his cool keeping Olde Wharf on the inside rails. In the stretch drive, both leaders faded away as Killer Bee (Roger Hewitt) made a move. Travelling smoothly on the inside Olde Wharf picked up his gallop to win by 1 ½ lengths.
Silent Cat (Tevin Foster) ran on strongly for second with Ricky Ricardo (Anthony Thomas) third.
