KINGSTON, Jamaica – After $8 million were wagered in the Reggae 6 pool ,which has a single winner jackpot of over $7 million, punters got off to a rocky start after the victory of 7-1 chance Zabratone. Zabratone’s success came in a four-year-old and upwards (non-winners of three call) travelling 7 ½ furlongs.
Jockey Christopher Mamdeen had Zabratone with the leading pack of five runners as no clear-cut leader was established. Then after four furlongs were done with, Zabratone and Strike At Will (Matthew Bennett) pulled away from the rest.
Nearing the turn for home Zabratone took control to enter the last two furlongs with the advantage. Zabratone then had to withstand the challenges of 4-5 favourite Tomohawk (Phillip Parchment 1-2) on the outside, and She Boom (Dick Cardenas 3-1) on the inside.
Somehow Zabratone was able to hold firm despite the jockey losing his whip in the final furlong to win by a neck over She Boom with Tomohawk third.
Trainer Ferguson’s was winning for the 12th occasion this year.
