KINGSTON, Jamaica - In a triumphant moment that underscores his dedication to the sport, trainer Steven Todd celebrated his landmark 300th career victory on Saturday, March 1, 2025, when his horse, Clowning Around, galloped to success at the racetrack.
This significant achievement marks a significant journey that began over a decade ago when Todd saddled his very first winner, with Surreal in 2011.
Emerging from a rich lineage in racing, Todd is the grandson of trainer L.C. Todd and the son of accomplished horseman Richard Todd. Drawing on this valuable family heritage, Steven has forged his own path in the competitive arena of horse training, consistently overcoming challenges in a field notorious for its highs and lows.
The milestone victory came in a race featuring native-bred five-year-olds and upwards (non-winners of two), as well as imported maidens over seven furlongs. Clowning Around, ridden by seasoned jockey Dane Dawkins, secured victory, edging out rivals Xylophonic Steel, piloted by Jerome Innis, and Blitz Strike, ridden by Reyan Lewis, with a narrow margin of victory by just a nose. The race clocked in with a time of 1:31.1, displaying splits of 24.1, 48.4, and 1:16.2.
